New Year

As I am completing my fall DRA's, I am finding them very interesting. Having ended the year last spring knowing where my students were at in reading, then testing them this fall, many of my students have remained close to where they were at in the spring. I had anticipated many students possibly going a bit backwards over the summer due to change in schedules and not as much time to read. I have been pleasantly surprised by students commitment to read and continue their growth over the summer! I can't wait to start the "reading" year off running!

  1. That is always a good sign of a teacher who has been able to reach the students and get them to LOVE reading and dedicate themselves in the summer. After looking at my DRA scores the majority of the students stayed exactly the same. The DRA is always such an interesting assessment. WIth getting students from different schools it is obvious that teachers have different understandings and uses for the DRA. For example I had a student that received a 40 on their DRA, but scored a 195 on their MAP test and read under 100 wpm on their AIMS test. The DRA is definitely an assessment that is useful, but can be misleading.
